English Department

The English Department offers a broad, flexible and enriching programme in response to the needs, interests and abilities of each student. We believe exposure to literature broadens the horizons of our students, helping them to develop empathy for others and an understanding of the world around them. The success and achievement of students is central to the teaching and learning that takes place in our English classrooms. The skills learned in studying English as outlined in The New Zealand Curriculum; reading and writing, speaking and listening, viewing and presenting, will enable students to participate effectively in society. We recognise that students have to be prepared for an increasingly complex society.
