NZQA offer New Zealand Scholarships – prestigious monetary awards for top-performing secondary students, designed to challenge the most able learners and the 2025 results are in and wow, what a year!
Our 2025 results are simply tremendous, our second best year on record, by the slimmest of margins.
In total, Burnside High School has recorded 92 scholarships, 13 of which are at outstanding level.
Congratulations to all the students (and to their families, friends and teachers) for such a tremendous achievement and in particular Sam Allan, Bodhi Cath and Andrew Wu who will be receiving Outstanding Scholar Awards – only 57 have been awarded across the country!
NZQA Scholarships are separate from NCEA credits and typically involve a rigorous written or spoken exam or portfolio submission. Scholarships are available in over 30 subjects including core academic, arts and technical subjects.
Scholarship recipients can receive a monetary award. This ranges from a one-off $500 payment for a single subject award to $10,000 per year for up to three years for premier award winners.
Our 2026 results are already looking bright with eight year 12 students from 2025 taking home scholarships, which are typically for year 13 students.
