We were pleased to host the Chinese Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr HUAI Jinpeng at Burnside High School today.
He is in New Zealand to speak at the NZIEC (New Zealand International Education Conference) held at Te Pae in Christchurch.
The Minister and his delegation were greeted with a Mihi whakatau . He was gifted a taonga and we received a reciprocal gift.
The Minister then met with a Year 10 class of Mandarin students and their teacher, Mr Kevin Grounds.
The students presented poems, songs and showed their proficiency in Chinese character writing.
We were kindly gifted 500 books from the Chinese Consulate.
The warmth between the two countries was evident from the interactions.
