Our badminton teams were in action over the weekend at the South Island Secondary Schools’ tournament and they continued their nomination of the premier A men’s title.
Burnside High School field fielded four boys teams and a girls team to fight it out for South Island honours.
Our boys Prem A team took home first place, for the fifth year in a row, losing just the one game the entire tournament – where they were beaten by one of our other teams!
Congratulations to Alex Huang, Jason Zhang, Jasper Wong, Rohan Gala, Kevin Zhang and Zach Shan on another remarkable performance.
Our girls Prem A finished fourth, despite carrying a number of injuries. Congratulations to Noa Miyamoto, Lisa Ho, Yoyo Weng, Jael Cheng and Loretta Liu who played really well and we are looking forward to what they can do at the national tournament in Term 3.
Badminton at Burnside High School continues to go from strength to strength, with all of our teams finishing strongly despite some set backs due to injury and the loss of a player to sickness, which meant defaulting two games per match for our junior boys team. Congratulations to:
-
Seann Maranan, Gabrielle Dela Cruz, Ian Sung, Isaiah Heine and Ryan Zhang.
-
Randiya, Jaden Jia, Alex Li, Nilana Ranasinghe and Jack Zeng.
-
Lucas Ling, Avery Yang and Lucas Yuwen.
It was a hard fought weekend with two days of play across almost twelve hours per day!
Thanks also to staff Kevin List and Anna Lucy Findlay for supporting our teams!
