Burnside High School Students challenge themselves and experience success in the NZ Mathematics Olympiad
The New Zealand Mathematical Olympiad (NZMO) consists of two rounds:
Round One (the NZMO1): A take home exam (a set of 8 problems), which lasts approximately 2 weeks, starting in June. Participation in the NZMO1 is open to any New Zealand student
Round Two (the NZMO2): A three hour exam in August. Participation in the NZMO2 is by invitation only, based on the results of the NZMO1.
Burnside High School had 7 students who worked on and submitted the Round 1 Questions. Two of our students were selected to participate in Round 2 of the competition.
Lucy Uren (Year 13) and Leon Wu (Year 10) sat the three hour examination in August.
We are very proud of Lucy making the second round of this prestigious competition.
Leon has been recognised with a Bronze Award in the Competition. This places him amongst the best mathematicians in the country and as a Year 10 student he has a bright, mathematical future ahead.
