What we recommend
To enable students to get the full benefit from the e-learning opportunities we offer, we highly recommend that students bring their own device.
Any device a student brings must have an integrated keyboard. It is recommended that a Year 9 and 10 student brings a Chromebook because they have been found to be reliable, fast, and have great battery life, and are effective when used in our learning spaces.
From Year 11 onwards, device choice opens up depending on the learning direction that students & their caregivers wish to work towards.
We do not recommend iPads as they have connectivity issues to our learning environment.
Purchasing a device
If you are looking to purchase a device, we recommend the options below. We deal with these companies through normal school business and believe they are able to provide quality information, service, technology, and ongoing support.
They can all be accessed either online or via the shop floor.
- Cyclone Computing
- Harvey Norman
- PB Tech
- Noel Leeming
Why students need a device
- Access to anytime, anywhere learning opportunities and resources.
- Communication and sharing of their learning online as well as transfer that learning across subjects and between school and home.
Device Set Up Information
- If you have a Chromebook please ensure a personal email account has already been logged-in to.
- If your child is bringing a laptop that isn’t a Chromebook, please complete a few quick steps before school starts to help everything run smoothly:
- Log In Ahead of Time – Make sure your child has logged into their device and can access their personal account. This helps avoid delays on the first day.
- Install Google Chrome – Please install the Google Chrome browser from chrome.google.com before your child arrives at school. This is important because our learning system (called Schoology) works best with Chrome and connects easily with our other Google tools.
- Check for Windows S Mode – If your child’s laptop runs Windows, check if it’s in something called “S Mode”. Devices in S Mode won’t let you install Chrome or other software your child may need especially for subjects like art, design or coding. If it is in S Mode, you will need to switch if off to complete the above step.
