This has been a big week of cricket for Burnside High School with the Year 9 Boys team competing in the NZCT Cup on Monday, the girls playing in the Venus Cup tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Boys 1st XI playing the Papanui High School 1st XI yesterday.

Unfortunately despite putting up a good fight against St Thomas’s the Year 9 Boys team bowed out of the NZCT Cup. This is a knockout tournament so as soon as you lose a game your journey in the tournament ends.

Both Felix Winsley and Thomas French had a great day with the ball, taking 3 wickets each.

The Boys 1st XI played the Papanui High School 1st XI in beautiful conditions at Burnside Park yesterday. We hope that this game will be an annual fixture / local derby type game.

The Burnside team won the toss and chose to bat first. A 55 from Alfie Bell helped the team set Papanui 155 to win. Some great bowling from Alex Guillemot (5 wkts for 12 runs off 7 overs) and an excellent fielding performance from the whole team had Papanui all out for 131.

Thank you to Sean Coster for attending the Year 9 and 1st XI games with the teams; and also to Callum Green and Tracy Taylor who supported the girl’s team.
