This year, the Sustainability Council has launched the Terracycle program at Burnside! For those who don’t know, Terracycle is a specialised initiative that collects and recycles unique items that standard recycling bins cannot accept.
Instead of ending up in landfill, these materials can be processed and turned into raw materials that can be used to make new products. This helps give waste a second life and reduces the amount of rubbish sent to landfill.
Currently, our school is collecting household batteries and COLGATE oral care products. Every item we recycle earns points, which can be converted into a donation for the school or a charity of our choice. You can all make a difference!
Collection boxes are located in the student office for students to bring in batteries and COLGATE products from home. All the information you need is on these boxes.
Support TerraCycle by dropping off empty Colgate toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, floss containers, mouthwash bottles and the plastic outer packaging. To help us optimise our impact, please make sure all oral care products are Colgate branded (and completely empty) and that the batteries are smaller than a tennis ball. Let’s see how much waste we can save, Burnside!
So, next time you finish a Colgate product or use a small household battery, stop before you throw it away. Don’t let it become landfill waste and, instead, bring it to the Student Office to make a difference!
