Environment Group hits largest number ever!

May 28, 2026

Our award winning Environment Group has grown exponentially and now has 340 members.

Our group has grown so well this year that we have introduced a team of Environment leaders, which consists of the top 25 students who help each and every week and coordinate our group activities.

We’d also like to shoutout to Katrina Lai, Vicky Lau (Year 13) and Joshua Pearce (Year 12) who are leading our very new Burnside Nursery, where we have begun propagating our own plants for future planting. This is a fantastic initiative that will supplement the wonderful support that we get from Trees for Canterbury and Christchurch City Council to restore and nurture the native corridor from Gardiners Road to Jellie Park Lake.

The Environment Club has been supporting this initiative for 14 years and we are seeing increased diversity in our wildlife, increased bird numbers and microscopic life in Hewlings Stream coming to life with fish returning in larger numbers and the repopulation of our eel numbers.

Thank you to Jon Land, Junior Dean, and Environmental Group lead, alongside a huge number of other staff who coordinate projects and propagate plants.
