The next meeting of our school PTA is being held in the school staffroom on 14 July. We will discussing our school strategy and our relationships and sexuality education curriculum.
If you are a parent or caregiver of a student at Burnside High School, you are
automatically a member and we would love to see you there.
The PTA purpose is: to provide a link between students, whanau and our school, and to foster a sense of school community.
Our objectives are:
-
To actively promote interaction between parents and teachers, school management, and the school Board.
-
To provide educational opportunities for parents in relation to their student’s
development.
-
To use PTA funds to provide improved facilities and opportunities for the school
community.
-
To provide the opportunity for parents to have a voice.
Your Burnside High School PTA Executive for 2026:
Chairperson: Matt Darnbrough
Treasurer: Sally McMorran
Secretary: Rebecca Matheson
Our meeting on Monday 5 May was both a general meeting and our AGM.
During the AGM, Matt Darnbrough gave examples of some of the wonderful projects that PTA funding had gone towards in 2024, as more than $42,000 was redistributed back to the school last year. These funds came directly from the voluntary donation and benefit so many students in nearly 20 different projects, including:
• Netball Resources
• Evolocity
• Year 9 Activity Day
• Bi-Lingual Dictionaries
• Posters for Pukehinau
• Quad rowing boat (contribution)
• School Formal Decorations (multi use)
• Robotics Table Materials
• Boys’ 1st XI and Girls’ 2nd XI Hockey Tops and Shorts
• Girls Football Tops and Jackets
• Agility with Sound – Structured Literacy and Decodable Books
This meeting was also a decision making time for the PTA for the first funding round of 2025. Projects that received PTA grant funding were:
• Fitness equipment for It’s My Move project
• Whitewater kayaks
• Sea kayaks and paddles
• Yr 13 building and construction supplies
• 10 outdoor picnic tables
• Breakout space furniture for Pukehinau
• Artwork by Dick Frizzell
• Donation towards Kai Hub
PTA funds come from the voluntary annual PTA donation that appears on your
school invoice. These funds are allocated twice a year to those school projects which meet our funding criteria. The PTA does not undertake any other fundraising so we really appreciate your contribution.
In 2024, the PTA was thrilled to be able to grant a funding request for three legacy projects. This funding came from income from the school uniform shop, which in the past had been run by the PTA onsite. The three legacy projects are:
1. Signage and Wayfinding
2. Quad artificial turf
3. Quad performance stage and decking
These upgrades have been a huge success and the PTA is very proud to be able to help.
