Over the weekend our Open Academy Dance team attended the @national_young_performer troupe competition held in Palmerston North.
We had the most amazing time away, performing with some of the best of the best dancers in the country.
Our students made us so proud of how they handled the pressure and the stage! Out of 74 amazing teams who attended, and only x5 high schools, we were so lucky to make the finals and to then receive a NYPA Special Award for Choreography for ‘Wonderful World.
This was choreographed by Molly Brown (ex student) and Tahlia Ellis. We were so lucky to have Molly come back and work with the team, using her creativity and inspiring our younger dancers.
A big thank you to Mr Espino for all his support of the team over the weekend. We also can’t forget our honorary costume mistress, Trudy Brown, for all her quiet organisation, endless problem solving and mega support to make this routine happen.
As always, our students here at Burnside did us proud. What they achieved on a National stage, against the best studios in the country, is impressive to say the least, with our limited lunchtime rehearsals and usual school dynamics.
For the majority of this team, this was their first ever PACANZ and we are excited to see them grow and strengthen as dancers over the next few years.
