Congratulations to Soeren Wells and Connor Jenkins on an outstanding performance at the Oceania Championships in Fiji this week.
Soeren is now an Oceania Champion taking out the 4 × 200m freestyle relay title with his teammates.
He also has an enviable collection of bronze medals, after reaching the podium in every individual event that he entered!
Congratulations to Soeren on his medals in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle events, as well as in the 400m individual medley.
Connor is a breaststroke specialist and he made the finals for the 50m, 100m and 200m events and swam the 200m medley breaststroke leg with the team coming in third. With personal bests in both the 100m preliminaries and backing it up with another personal best in the final, we know that Connor swam with pride and determination. Congratulations!
Additionally, the weekend before the Oceania Championships Connor broke the 16 year old male NZ record in the 50m breast stroke (short course) at the Ashburton Splash meet. The record was 28.64 and he swam an incredible 28.28.
Both students have subsequently been selected into the New Zealand Swimming Team for the Tri Series which is held in Karratha, Western Australia in July.
