Otago Medical School in Christchurch – DARE Day

June 19, 2026

On Tuesday 16 June, a very lucky group of eleven of our Year 13 students attended a morning at the University of Otago Medical School in Christchurch focused on careers in health sciences.

This event was designed to give students an opportunity to explore pathways towards a range of health professions. There were limited spaces at this event, but we have arranged for in-school sessions to occur in the coming months.

Students were addressed by health science students, graduates, and professionals, and explored hands-on examples of health professions and medical research to better understand future career options.

Each year around 50 – 70 Burnside graduates begin their tertiary studies in areas such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, biomedical science research, psychological medicine, and radiation therapy, not to mention nursing, genetics, public health, pathology, and biomedical science!

An entertaining and enlightening day was enjoyed by our students. Thanks to our careers team for their organisation of this event.
