Congratulations go to Katie Horton, who was awarded this year’s PASCH German Scholarship.
Along with six other students from PASCH schools around New Zealand, Katie attended a three week Jugendkurs in Frankfurt, Germany from 1st to 20th July.
Katie’s scholarship included German language lessons, accommodation, flights between Germany and New Zealand, leisure activities and excursions.
The highlights would have to be getting to know other German learners from all over the world and making lifelong friendships.
Attached is a video of Katie’s Musik-Projekt with the cool song: “Tage wie diese”.
Katie also successfully passed the B1 examination, the only one from the New Zealand group to reach this high achievement. Wie wunderbar!
Carol Currie was the accompanying teacher for the group of seven students to travel to Germany. While the students were at the youth camp, Carol participated in a German teachers’ Professional Development course held in Dresden at the Goethe-Institut: with inspiring and fun-packed hands on practical workshops and projects on Methodology and Pedagogy with teachers from twenty countries and German being the common language.
The highlights would have to be: seeing the beautifully restored Frauenkirche after the rebuild of Dresden post reunification; cruising on the River Elbe on a steam ship from Meißen to Dresden with the bells from the churches ringing; setting up projects with other PASCH schools around the world and watching the Germany-Spain football match in the European World Cup in a Biergarten with locals. Wie cool!
