12 Geography Aoraki/Mt. Cook 2024

March 4, 2024

The Year 12 Geography classes embarked on an enriching three-day field trip to Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park, nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of the Southern Alps on New Zealand’s South Island.

The trip aimed to deepen students’ understanding of glacial processes, alpine ecosystems, and the impacts of human activities on mountain environments.

The itinerary included engaging activities such as debating the uses of 1080 as a form of pest control, exploring iconic trails like the Hooker Valley and Blue Lakes walks, experiencing Tasman Taster flights with Inflite Skiplanes, studying local hydroelectric and aquaculture developments, investigating the impacts of tourism, and gaining insight into waste and water management within the national park.
