South Island Secondary Schools Touch Championships

March 18, 2024

After a very late entry, the Burnside High School Girls’ Touch team competed in the SISS Touch Championships on Saturday 16th/Sunday 17th March at Sheldon Park, Belfast.

After playing 5 games on Saturday (2 wins, 2 losses & a draw) they qualified 3rd in their pool. On Sunday they played Christchurch Girls’ High School in the quarter final and won 4-3. The week prior we lost to CGHS 7-3 in their Super Touch game, so it was awesome to see them come away with a win this time round.
They then went on to face St Hilda’s Collegiate School in the semi final, narrowly losing 6-5 which placed them 3rd overall, being the only Christchurch team to make the top 4.
The girls are now filled with confidence and looking forward to the possibility of heading to Rotorua for Nationals in December.

The team have done themselves and Burnside High School proud, especially as this team have only played 3 games together prior to SISS Champs.

“On behalf of the girls and their whanau, we would like to say a massive thank you to Benn Seebeck and Anita Boyd for coaching and managing the team over the weekend. The girls success and confidence is a result of your enthusiasm, knowledge and expertise in the team development”.

Congratulations!
