The Specialist Music Programme at Burnside High School caters for students with considerable musical experience and talent. Successful applicants gain entry to Burnside High School whether living in-zone or not. Applications are now open to talented musicians in the following specialist areas:
- Piano
- Orchestral Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)
- Woodwind (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone)
- Brass (Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Euphonium)
- Voice
- Jazz (Drums, Bass Guitar, Guitar, Piano) NB SMP Brass and Woodwind students with an interest in Jazz are eligible to join this workshop in addition to their main specialism.
ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAMME
All auditions for entry in 2025 will be by video submission in the first instance. Selected applicants will then be invited to attend for face-to-face interview. All prospective Year 9 students wishing to be considered for SMP scholarshipsMUST audition in the first session (May); other year levels may also audition at this time. A further session of auditions, run in the same manner and open for entry to all year levels (9-13), will be held in July 2024.

KEY DATES
Deadline for SMP Scholarship applications: Thursday 16th May 2024 at 3.00pm. Video audition submissions are due by 1.00pm Monday 20th May with interviews for selected applicants on Friday 24th May.
Deadline for all other SMP applications: Thursday 18th July 2024 at 3.00pm. Video audition submissions are due by 1.00pm Monday 22nd July with interviews for selected applicants on Friday 26th July.
An SMP information meeting for prospective students and parents will be held on Wednesday 8th May 2024 at 6.30pm in the staffroom at Burnside High School (access from the main school car park on Greers Road).
